«Country music superstar Kenny Chesney has signed an exclusive global publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), the publishing giant announced today (May 19).
»Over his nearly 30-year career, Chesney has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Earlier this month, he marked his ninth No. 1 debut on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart with Here and Now, and has recorded 20 total albums. The 52-year-old known for hits like “American Kids,” “Get Along” and “You and Tequila” has been awarded entertainer of the year four times each by the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association, and received BMI’s prestigious President’s Award in 2016.
»Chesney moves over from Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The switch reunites him with Troy Tomlinson, who left Sony/ATV last year to join UMPG Nashville as chairman and CEO.
»Tomlinson still remembers meeting Chesney when the artist was just 24 years old. “He played me four or five songs in my office on his guitar,” the executive said in a press statement. “I remember the vivid lyrics. I can still recite them today. We have enjoyed lots of success together and lots of fun times and lifelong memories.
